January 26, 2010
The International 3D Society (I3DS) in conjunction with XpanD, hosted a successful inaugural membership reception Wednesday night. The Society will provide regular monthly seminars and gatherings for its 3D membership.

I3DS President Jim Chabin welcomed the new members and thanked them for furthering the mission of the Society “to advance the art and technologies of stereoscopic 3D content and its professional innovators by providing a community to enhance education, demonstration, and recognition for its members.” Over 100 3D professionals registered as new members generously sponsored by XpanD. New members included 3D executives from companies such as Fox Broadcasting, Panasonic, Sony Digital Cinema, Universal Studios Hollywood, In-Three, KABC-TV, KTLA-TV, DCinema Today and Variety.

XpanD CEO Maria Costeira remarked, “We are true believers of 3D and its multiple applications, hardware and creative content and its unlimited possibilities. We’re very supportive of the International 3D Society because their mission is to help promote the education of the emerging 3D markets and that mirrors the XpanD philosophies.”

At the reception, XpanD recreated their suite from the recent Consumer Electronics Show (Las Vegas). Clips were displayed from Disney’s upcoming release of “Alice in Wonderland,” along with clips from recent productions “A Christmas Carol and Toy Story.” Also viewed in the XpanD state-of-the-art demo theatre, was the Fox blockbuster, “Avatar” as well as a slate of 3D advertisements and a 3D music video by Missy Elliot.

“AVATAR” the video game was displayed on a 60" Mitsubishi, using an Xbox 3D Gaming station and other displays; the displays also included an 82” Mitsubishi and a projection system with a 3D Computer that generated images to showcase some of the latest educational content applications.

XpanD is the only company in the world to provide 3D active-shutter glasses for use in all platforms spanning from cinema, home entertainment (including DLP-Link projector technology), broadcast, education, corporate and PC gaming.

The International 3D Society thanked its Signature Sponsor, XpanD and Founding Sponsor MasterImage; both companies have made it possible to offer complimentary monthly educational seminars. The organization will celebrate achievements in 3D entertainment at its first annual 3DNA Awards Show slated for February 23, 2010 at Mann’s Chinese Theatres.
